About ChurnAlpha
ChurnAlpha is built by an independent, long-time factor investor who got tired of guessing what switching really costs. No funds to sell, no commissions, no ads. Just the math, shown in full.
Why it exists
Every investor eventually faces the same question: should I sell this and buy that? Maybe it's an expensive fund, a tilt toward small-cap value, an old stock position, or an advisor you're no longer sure about. The advice you'll find is usually one of two slogans: "never pay tax you don't have to," or "just switch, it'll make it back."
Both skip the arithmetic. ChurnAlpha does it. It prices the friction of a decision: the tax you pay today, the compounding you give up, and the return your new investment has to earn just to break even. Then you decide whether you believe it can.
What ChurnAlpha is not
- Not an advisor. It doesn't tell you what to buy or sell, and it doesn't predict returns. You bring the assumptions; it shows what they imply.
- Not selling you anything else. No funds, no affiliate links to brokers, no commissions. If ChurnAlpha ever charges for something, it will be the tool itself.
- Not collecting your data. The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.
How the math works
Both paths, keeping and switching, are compared as if fully sold at the end of your time horizon, with all taxes paid. That way you're comparing spendable dollars, not paper values. The engine handles upfront tax, losses used against gains and ordinary income, carryforwards, and the step-up in basis for heirs. Its simplifications, like flat tax rates and steady returns, are stated wherever results appear.
